My Comment: The Boston Red Sox have their first win of the 2012 season and how fitting that it is a come-from-behind victory in the ninth inning. Let's hope with this better start than 2011, they'll have a corresponding better finish!

My Comment: After an hiatus last season, I have returned to my favorite New England sports living bar. Andrew is there as usual and brought me a diet coke. A little later Rich came in and we caught up. Very quiet in the bar - no one else here watching the game.
The game is underway and after two outs, Pedroia gets a single into left field. Dustin is stranded at first. Now the Tigers are at bat. And not surprisingly, Detroit scores. Prince Fielder gets his 1,000th hit off Clay Buchholz. the Tigers have the bases loaded with two outs. A hit out to center field clears the bases and the Tigers end the first leading 4 to 0. Now there are two more guys in the bar watching the Red Sox.
David Ortiz gets a single. Darnell McDonald gets a walk and now two on and no outs. Mike Aviles gets a double and the Red Sox are on the board with two runs (the number they've had over the last two games). The Red Sox have the bases loaded with two outs. Can they score again? No. Tigers 4, Red Sox 2.
Detroit executes a hit and run and there are men at first and third with no one out. Now there is one out. Another Detroit out, but also another run.
Gonzalez leads off the third with a single. Ortiz get a double and Adrian scores. Now there's an out. A hit and Ortiz scores. Bases loaded and Boston scores. Two outs. A balk is called and another Boston run scores. Jells gets his first hit of the season and the Tigers make a pitching change. Tigers 4, Red Sox 7.
More people watching the game. No Tiger runs in the third!
No Boston runs in the fourth. Tigers get a run in the fourth. First and third with no one out. A double play, but the Tigers get another run. Game is tied 7 to 7.
Top of the fifth and Boston goes down 1, 2, 3. And the Tigers go 1, 2, 3 in the fifth.
Now to the sixth. Jells get a leadoff double. Dustin flies out to right, but Jells moves easily to third. Adrian gets his first homerun of the season! Boston breaks the tie with two runs. Ortiz strikes out. Another out and the score is Tigers 7, Red Sox 9. It's Detroit's turn and no runs scored.
Seventh inning and Boston has the lead. But no more runs for the Red Sox. Detroit has a runner on first with two outs. Next batter grounds out - onto the eighth. A leadoff double for Nick Punto. Punto moved over on Jacoby's ground out. Pedroia gets on base and ends up on third, but does not score. Detroit is at bat again. They go down 1, 2, 3.
Made it to the ninth and Boston is still in the lead. McDonald is on with a single. Now two on with no one out. Runners get moved over to second and third with one out. Two outs. McDonald scores a run. Tigers 7, Red Sox 10. Detroit comes up to bat in the ninth. Man on first. Now men on first and second. Miguel Cabrera gets a homerun. The game is tied 10 to 10. And no one is out. Boston has no closer! Franklin Morales relieves Alfredo Aceves. One out. Two outs. Three outs. Onto extra innings! First extra inning game for the Red Sox this season.
Tenth inning. Pedroia gets a walk. Dustin is stranded at first. Detroit is up. One out. One on. Two out. Man on second. Three outs.
Now to the eleventh. Boston's turn. Cody Ross on first via a walk. Hit and run. One on first and one on third. no one out. One out. Cody Ross comes in with the go ahead run! Still one out. Men on first and third. Two outs. Another run comes in! Men on first and third with two outs. Men on first and second. Three outs. The Tigers are up. One out. Men on first and second. Wild pitch. Men on first and third. One run scores. Two outs. Man on first. Homerun! Red Sox lose for the third game in a row!!! Unbelievable!

BOSTON: Starting Pitcher: Clay Buchholz; Losing Pitcher: Mark Melancon (2)
DETROIT: Starting Pitcher: Max Scherzer; Winning Pitcher: Duane Below
BOSTON: Homerun: Adrian Gonzalez (1)
DETROIT: Homeruns: Miguel Cabrera, Alex Avila

RED SOX: Wins 0, Losses 3, Percentage: .000

Detroit Slams And Shutouts Boston

My Comment: Two games played and the Boston Red Sox have an average of one run per game - this from the top-scoring team in the Majors? Granted it could be worse, but not by much. The Red Sox need run production to offset the pitching by its starters and relievers. Without their powerful bats, Boston is looking at a long, lackluster season. Where's the luster?

BOSTON: Starting Pitcher: Josh Beckett; Losing Pitcher: Josh Beckett (1)
DETROIT: Starting Pitcher: Doug Fister; Winning Pitcher: Duane Below
DETROIT: Homeruns: Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Alex Avila

RED SOX: Wins 0, Losses 2, Percentage: .000
