My Comment: More ninth inning heorics for Boston results in the series win against the Houston Astros. These types of victories are the staple of the Red Sox this season and has helped them lead the AL East. Now it's onto Kansas City for a four-game series and more wins!

My Comment: A four-game sweep of the Astros by the Red Sox to end the homestand and send Boston on the road to Toronto still in first place in the American League East. A wonderful end to a homestand that began with unhappiness, but Boston came through and came together. Now onto a great road trip!

My Comment: With this victory, the Boston Red Sox now have the best record in the Major Leagues. Yeah! They have won the series with the Houston Astros and, of course, remain in first place. Tomorrow the Red Sox go for the sweep. Let's hope the pitching is up to the task.

My Comment: The Boston Red Sox have been in first place for the first 26 days of the season and this is the first time in the team's history that they have done that. Looking forward to Boston extending that record well into the season. With today's win, the Red Sox have guaranteed themselves at least a split of the series, but another sweep is the goal.

My Comment: The game was over at the end of the first inning, though Boston and Houston still had to play eight more innings. Fortunately, it was the Red Sox who were happy with the score in the first inning and stayed happy throughout the game. Boston is now 15 and 7, while Houston is 7 and 15. Interestingly, at the conclusion of this game, Boston's starting pitcher is 5 and 0, while Houston's starting pitcher is 0 and 5. Just a passing observation.

My Comment: Four Red Sox players are going to the 82nd All-Star Game - Josh Beckett (3rd time), Jacoby Ellsbury (1st time), Adrian Gonzalez (4th time), and David Ortiz (7th time). Congratulations everyone! But where are Jon Lester and Dustin Pedroia? They should be on the All-Star list. Ortiz and Gonzalez will participate in the Home Run Derby. Oh, and by the way, Boston swept Houston with the win in the pitcher's duel of the third game. Now back to Fenway for two series before the All-Star break. Have fun at home guys!

My Comment: Congratulations to Navarro on his first Major League homerun! That pinch-hit long ball certainly put the game away and insured a Red Sox win. Hitting ruled the game today on both sides, but Boston was somewhat better at it this Saturday evening. The Red Sox go for the sweep tomorrow as they end this current road trip. In any case, Boston has won the series. Go for it Boston!

Houston Handles Boston

An eight inning game was played at City of Palms Park today and it was two innings too long for the Boston Red Sox. It's too bad that the rain didn't arrive earlier and the game called at the end of the sixth inning with Boston ahead by three runs. Instead there was a seventh inning and the Houston Astros reigned over Papelbon and then Houston lead by three runs. Hope this type of outing will not be repeated by Papelbon in the regular season - two years in row would be awful. At least the hitting and run scoring was there for the Red Sox - one additional hit and run than in yesterday's game. Another two-game day for Boston tomorrow with both of them scheduled for the same time - want different results.

Astros Ace Red Sox

Although Osceola County Stadium was a new site for the Boston Red Sox this pre-season, unfortunately the first visit was not an enjoyable one for the Red Sox. They were shutout by the Houston Astros. The hitting prowess displayed yesterday was definitely absent today. However, that is nothing new - Boston regularly has a dramatic hitting falloff the day after the team amasses a great number of hits. I have no explanation for why this consistently happens, but it is a Red Sox reality. The one bright note today was Jon Lester's pitching, as he only gave up one run in the four innings he pitched. Another Red Sox squad plays later today - perhaps they will have a wining outcome.
