From the 2006 book, The Official Rules of Baseball Illustrated, by David Nemec, I will present Rule 2 of the Code - the definitions of baseball terms - over the course of the 2012 baseball season. Today’s terms are: Adjudged, Appeal, Balk, Ball.
Adjudged – a judgment decision by the umpire.
Appeal – the act of a fielder in claiming violation of the rules by the offensive team.
Balk – an illegal act by the pitcher with a runner or runners on base, entitling all runners to advance one base.
Ball – a pitch which does not enter the strike zone in flight and is not struck at by the batter.
