My first Sunday morning at my favorite New England sports living bar of the 2010 season. Since last Sunday's Opening Night, the Boston Red Sox only have two wins out of the five games played. Today they look to be at .500. In the bar I'm sitting in a booth this season because of the reconfiguration of the space done by the new owners. The one dangerous aspect of my new placement is that darts are being thrown to my left. Hope I won't have to do much ducking! Some new faces (dart playing ones), but Rich is here, as is Andrew, of course. Watching the Kansas City feed of the game as the NESN broadcast is blacked out where I am. Oh well, at least I can enjoy the upcoming victory among Red Sox people.

Red Sox got to the Kansas City Royals starter early - Boston scored four runs in the first - and Meche left after one out in the fourth. And that was the last scoring inning for Boston. One disturbing factor in Kauffman Stadium today was the lack of field communication between Boston players. Two incidents and Ellsbury was involved in both of them - Ellsbury/Hall and Ellsbury/Beltre. The second miscommunication caused injury to Jacoby, but fortunately no ribs were broken - just bruising and swelling. Need to work on communicating on the run.

Meanwhile, in the bar, hardly recognized anyone and it is a little more crowded than usual for a Sunday morning. Perhaps the "new" New England sports living bar has attracted new patrons. The noise level has increased and made watching the game less than ideal. Manager Mike showed up, as well as Skiing Stephen - hurray, people I know! The game is taking longer than the first two games of this series and I only have the game being recorded for three hours - ugh! There is a first, second, and third achievement for Red Sox players today - first win for Buchholz, second save for Papelbon, and third homerun for Pedoria. Perhaps Boston can achieve three wins in a row tomorrow. That would be absolutely wonderful!

Where to begin? Let's start at the end - the Boston Red Sox decisively broke their three-game losing streak with a multi-homer-fueled victory over the Kansas City Royals in Kauffman Stadium! Yes, Boston came through. Great to see two "old" regulars in the game - Varitek and Lowell, especially as Jason contributed not one, but two homeruns and Mike played flawlessly at third. Four Red Sox batters were responsible for five homeruns that produced six runs. Now that's hitting! The longballs came en masse tonight and let's hope Boston keeps that high hitting. Of course Josh a had better outing and personal outcome than he did on Opening Night. Could 'Tek have been a factor? Whatever it was, I'm glad it was there. Tomorrow Boston, let's win your first series of the season and keep the momentum going.

Tim redeemed himself in the seventh inning, but the relief pitching was unable to maintain his redemption. Perhaps the redemption should have stayed with Wakefield. Therefore, the Boston Red Sox started this road trip against the Kansas City Royals with a loss. And Boston's losing streak is now at three games. A win in Kauffman Stadium for the Red Sox is a must tomorrow. The streak has to end. The Boston hitting needs to step up and produce more runs. Want a winning road trip.

The Boston Red Sox leave Kauffman Stadium with an excellent win and a series split with the Kansas City Royals. A terrific pitching outing for Buchholz and plenty of Red Sox hitting today - the Martinez hitting streak continued. Boston will be back in Kansas City next April 9th through 11th for a three-game series. Until then, the Red Sox say farewell to the Royals. Boston's final leg of this last regular season road trip is visiting the New York Yankees for a three-game series. Even though they have made some gain on the Yankees, Boston's path to the postseason appears to be via the Wild Card. The Rangers did lose today.

Yes, the Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals had the exact number of hits in today's game; however, at the end, Boston had the greater number of runs scored in Kauffman Stadium and that is all that counts! The Red Sox will go for salvaging a series split in tomorrow's fourth game against the Royals. With his twenty-second straight game with a hit, Victor Martinez tied Jacoby Ellsbury for the longest hit streak for Boston this season. Congrats! Well, tomorrow the Boston Red Sox will be going for a split of the four-game series against the Kansas City Royals. Today the Red Sox lost another game to the Royals due to pitching - the shaky Boston starting pitching and the excellent Kansas City starting pitching. Even though the hitting and scoring were lower than yesterday, the run differential in today's final score from yesterday's increased by one. Let's hope that tomorrow in Kauffman Stadium that Boston is able to decrease that run differential into a win for the Red Sox. Joining Boston in the loss column today were the Rangers, which is a fortunate outcome for the Red Sox in the AL Wild Card race. However, the Yankees won today and that increases their AL East division lead.

The Boston Red Sox bullpen out did starter Wakefield. While it took Tim five innings to give up five runs to the Kansas City Royals, it took the relievers two innings to give up seven runs. Not exactly an endorsement for the Boston pen today. Although Wakefield was not in his top form, he did manage to leave the game with a lead and I'm sure expected a win against the Royals. Instead Boston has begun its four-game visit to Kauffman Stadium with a loss. Unfortunately, the Yankees also lost today and the Rangers won. Therefore, no gain on New York and a range reduction on Texas.
