Boston Defeated By Toronto

Teams1st2nd3rd4th5th6th7th8th9thRunsHitsErrors
Red Sox0001000001111
Blue Jays00000020X260

Red Sox highlight: Eleven hits
Red Sox lowlight: One throwing error
Blue Jays highlight: Two runs
Blue Jays lowlight: Four men left on base

My Comment: No series win for the Red Sox. There was hitting by Boston, but the stranding of a dozen men on base was a key factor in Boston not being able to get the victory. Now it's back to Fenway and the New York Yankees.

BOSTON: Starting Pitcher: Jake Peavy; Losing Pitcher: Jake Peavy (5)
TORONTO: Starting Pitcher: Mark Buehrle; Winning Pitcher: Mark Buehrle
TORONTO: Save: Casey Janssen

Red Sox: Wins 72 Losses 51, Percentage: .585

TORONTO: Starting Pitcher: Esmil Rogers; Winning Pitcher: Brad Lincoln
BOSTON: Homeruns: David Ortiz (23), Mike Napoli (15)

My Comment: A little extra effort in the extra innings and the Red Sox win the first game of the three-game against the Blue Jays. Glad the team got the first one out of the way. Now they can go for the sweep!

BOSTON: Starting Pitcher: Ryan Demspter; Winning Pitcher: Koji Uehara (3)

Red Sox Best Blue Jays In Rubber Game, 3 To 1

Blue Jays100000000172

Red Sox highlight: Relief pitching
Red Sox lowlight: Twelve men left on base

My Comment: As is typical Red Sox fashion, the game after one with a huge hitting display is usually marked by quieter bats. That was borne out today as Boston had nine fewer hits in their win over Toronto than they did yesterday. No matter, the Red Sox won the series and that is what counts. Now the team is off to Texas for a three-game series. Will probably have a tougher time in Texas than they did in Toronto, but I'm sure good things will happen.

BOSTON: Starting Pitcher: Ryan Dempster; Winning Pitcher: Ryan Dempster (2)
TORONTO: Starting Pitcher: J. A. Happ; Losing Pitcher: J. A. Happ

My Comment: A strong start to the month of May for the AL East first place Boston Red Sox. The game was a demonstration of power hitting. Tomorrow the Red Sox will go for the series win. And Boston still has the best record in the Majors.

BOSTON: Starting Pitcher: Clay Buchholz; Winning Pitcher: Clay Buchholz (6)
TORONTO: Starting Pitcher: Mark Buehrle; Losing Pitcher: Mark Buehrle

My Comment: No club record for the number of wins in April and the first time this season that Boston didn't win the first game of a series. However, the Red Sox end the first month of the 2013 season not only in first place in the American League East, but also with the best record in baseball. Boston will start May in an excellent place.

BOSTON: Starting Pitcher: Jon Lester; Losing Pitcher: Junichi Tazawa (1)

Super Red Sox Shutout Baffles Blue Jays, 13 To 0

Red Sox highlight: Three homeruns by Will Middlebrooks
Red Sox lowlight: Six men left on base

Blue Jays lowlight: No runs

My Comment: Love the hitting and homerun game the Red Sox demonstrated today! And the shutout payback was just a extra bonus in a suberb Boston win. Great combination of power and pitching that sends the Red Sox to Fenway with a winning road record to start the season for the first time in two years. Wish I was on the plane with the team on their way back to Boston - lots of happy people on that flight! Tomorrow is Boston's home opener and coming off a win like today is a wonderful emotional state to play the game against the Baltimore Orioles. Over this Toronto series, Boston averaged 6.33 runs and 9.66 hits per game. And, by the way, the Red Sox are in first place all alone. Yeah!!

BOSTON: Starting Pitcher: Jon Lester; Winning Pitcher: Jon Lester (2)
TORONTO: Starting Pitcher: R. A. Dickey; Losing Pitcher: R. A. Dickey
BOSTON: Homeruns: Will Middlebrooks (2,3,4), Daniel Nava (1), Jacoby Ellsbury (1), Mike Napoli (2)

Red Sox Shutout By Blue Jays

Red Sox highlight: Jacoby Ellsbury's leadoff double and two steals
Red Sox lowlight: Relief pitching

Blue Jays lowlight: Six men left on base

My Comment: Thanks to Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia the Red Sox avoid being no hit, but not being shutout. Though I am no fan of John Lackey, it was distressing that he had he had to leave the game with a strained right bicep and that Alfredo Aceves had to takeover. Let's get some more hitting and win the series tomorrow!

BOSTON: Starting Pitcher: John Lackey; Losing Pitcher: John Lackey (1)

Boston Tops Toronto By Two, 6 To 4

My Comment: Though his welcome back to Toronto by Blue Jays fans can not be described as joyous, at least John Farrell found pleasure in the win against his old team to start the three-game series. The long ball finally happened for Boston, including a ninth inning insurance blast by Middlebrooks. Boston lead or tied, but was never behind and had double digit hits. Onto another series win!

My Comment: Well, I did go to my favorite New England sports living bar today to watch the game, but the bar's WiFi wasn't working and the network connection I could make was incredibly slow and thus useless, so I don't have a running commentary on how I experienced this Red Sox loss. I'm writing this hours after the game - needed to recover from painful pitching. So, in addition to Daniel "Balk" Bard and Daniel "Walk" Bard, there is now Daniel "Hit'em" Bard. More nicknames to come, I'm sure. At least Boston is still above .500 going into a six-game homestand. What do you think, will the Red Sox go five and one on the homestand? Better? Or worse?
