Red Sox Sweep Yankees, 9 To 2

Teams1st2nd3rd4th5th6th7th8th9thRunsHitsErrors

Red Sox30011220X9111

Yankees highlight: Five hits
Yankees lowlight: Six men left on base
Red Sox highlight: One homerun
Red Sox lowlight: One pickoff error

My Comment: Boston finally gets another sweep and very nice that it is against the Yankees. However, one retiring Yankee was honored at Fenway Park tonight - Mariano Rivera - for his outstanding career as a closer. And the Red Sox were gracious enough to give him the night off with their decisive victory over the Yankees. Now Boston's magic number is four.

YANKEES: Starting Pitcher: Ivan Nova; Losing Pitcher: Ivan Nova
BOSTON: Starting Pitcher: Clay Buchholz; Winning Pitcher: Clay Buchholz (11)
BOSTON: Homerun: Mike Napoli (22)

Red Sox: Wins 92, Losses 59, Percentage: .609

Next game: Tuesday 17 September 2013, 4:10 p.m.PT/7:10 p.m.ET, Baltimore Orioles, Fenway Park, Ryan Dempster

My Comment: Just a little extra from Boston gives the Red Sox the win in the first game of a four-game series against the Yankees. As usual, it should be a good series with long games. No matter, as long as the Red Sox win, it is worth however long it takes

My Comment: No sweep for Boston in this series, but the team goes for the series win tomorrow. Baserunning was horrible today by the Red Sox - the game should have been much closer. Need the wins as Tampa Bay is surging and the Red Sox only has a game and a half lead in the AL East.

As John Farrell returns to Toronto for the first time since becoming Boston's manager, let's hope the Red Sox do him proud and play as well against the Blue Jays as they did against the Yankees. For the first time in two years, the Red Sox have won their season opener and happily it was a victory against the New York Yankees.
