BALTIMORE: 0 7 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 8 11 1
BOSTON: 0 4 1 0 3 2 0 0 x - 10 12 0
Fenway Park was very friendly to both the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles, but the ball park turned out to be friendlier to the home team. Although the Orioles ' Nick Marakakis (a New England native) had a grand slam, Red Sox players Jason Bay and J. D. Drew also enjoyed homeruns today. More importantly, Boston had its first double-digit run producing game of the season. After going two and four on the recent road trip, it was great to have Boston start this nine-game homestand with a victory.
However, in the seventh inning they managed to have the bases-loaded, no one out, and end up scoring exactly zero runs. That has always been the frustrating aspect of the Red Sox for me - to have the power and skill to get players on base and then leave them stranded. And though all the runs Boston needed to win the game had already been produced by the seventh inning, there was always the possibility that Baltimore could have come back in the late innings. The Red Sox need a way to stop stranding men on base.
