NY YANKEES: 0 1 0 0 3 0 0 1 1 - 6 9 3
BOSTON: 1 0 2 0 1 0 0 0 0 - 4 9 1
After one day of being, perfection ended today. The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees are now even in this early part of the season. Yesterday's triumph in Fenway Park became today's defeat for the Red Sox. In one of those twisted ironies that only seems to happen in baseball, yesterday's winning pitcher is today's losing pitcher - Okajima is even with himself. Besides Victor's homerun, the highlights of the game for Boston were the two stolen bases by Ellsbury and Beltre. It's a shame that Beltre wasn't able to get on base in the eighth - swinging at a pitch low and far away from a pitcher against whom he had the best record of the batters who faced Chamberlain? Wasted opportunity. Despite the loss, I had no problem with the way Terry utilized the pitching staff today. I know, a rare statement from me, but the season is new and I'm sure there will come times when I disagree with his usage of pitchers. For now, it's all good. Anyway, it was the Boston error that changed the course of the game. One defensive error, one loss. Because of the loss, Boston is now in second place in the AL East, which is lead by Tampa Bay. I'd say the Rays are the team to pay attention to over the course of the season - they ended Spring Training in first place in the Grapefruit League. Any direct correlation with the regular season? - perhaps not, but they want to improve over last year and they are capable of making a good run for the post season. Anyway, there's another game with the Yankees tomorrow and a chance for the Red Sox to win this first series of the season. Let's be victorious!
