Yesterday Beckett gave up three runs in the seventh inning, and the Boston Red Sox go on to dramatically win the game in extra innings. Today Buchholz gave up three runs in the seventh inning, and the Boston Red Sox go on to quietly lose the game in regulation innings. Of the two of them, Beckett had the worse start (gave up more runs and hits), but he ends up with a "no decision"; while Buchholz, with the better start (four less runs and one less hit), ends up with a loss. Yes, a day does make a difference and the Texas Rangers get a win. Ultimately, the lack of Red Sox hitting against Rangers pitching was the difference in today's game outcome. In any case, Boston has its first Fenway Park series win of the season. The Red Sox will go for the second home series win beginning tomorrow.
