White Sox Rip Red Sox

CHI. WHITE SOX: 0 4 4 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 9 14 0
BOSTON: 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 2 1 - 5 9 1

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Junichi Tazawa had the first bad outing of his major league career in this loss to the Chicago White Sox. Tazawa still has much to learn about pitching effectively in the majors, but there will be better games. There was a relief pitching surprise in Fenway Park today. Making his Major League pitching debut in the eighth inning, and continuing into the ninth, was Red Sox shortstop Nick Green who gave up three walks, no hits, no runs and has an ERA of 0.00! Way to go Nick!! Good to know that pitching help can come from any player. And it's an interesting maneuver to save the bullpen for the weekend. Okay Terry. Boston's attempted comeback fell a grand slam short, but the Red Sox were able to score runs on the White Sox relievers, just not enough. Despite the loss, Boston won the four-game series and still maintains their AL Wild Card lead.

In other pitching developments, Brad Penny has been granted his requested release from the Red Sox and newly acquired Bill Wagner (from the Mets) will make his Red Sox debut during the upcoming three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Even though Wagner's role is different (coming from the bullpen, not starting), the question for Boston is will this new acquisition from the National League have a better stay in the American League than John Smoltz? The answer will be forthcoming shortly, let's hope it's a positive one.
