Red Sox Trample Twins, 9 to 4

MINNESOTA: 2 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 - 4 8 0
BOSTON: 0 0 7 0 0 1 1 0 x - 9 7 0

The Boston Red Sox victory over the Minnesota Twins in Fort Myers was significant on a local level. By winning this game, the Red Sox won the annual Mayor's Cup which is given to either Minnesota or Boston to honor the team who has the most victories in team-to-team competetion during Spring Training. This was the third year in a row that Boston has won the cup given by the Mayor of Fort Myers. Both teams make their Spring Training home in Fort Myers.

Apparently, it was also homerun day in the City of Palms Park. The Red Sox had three multiple run homers in the bottom of the third inning (Rocco Baldelli three-run, David Ortiz two-run, Jason Bay two-run). The seven runs produced were more than enough to beat the Twins. Minnesota also contributed one two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning (Matt Tolbert). These would be their last runs of the game.
