Red Sox Rattle Twins

The Minnesota Twins traveled several miles across Fort Myers to play the Boston Red Sox in the City of Palms Park. As this was St. Patrick's Day, the usual festive atmosphere moved up a couple of notches with fans (and Red Sox players) wearin' o' the green and with a number of leprechauns in attendance. And Boston found its pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow with a win over Minnesota. The Red Sox did all their scoring in the first five innings of the game which included four homeruns (one more than yesterday's win against the Blue Jays). Boston put across one run in the bottom of the first inning and then the homeruns began. In the bottom of the second inning Jason Varitek start the homeruns with a solo shot for the only run in the Boston half. Two more runs were added in the bottom of inning three on a two-run homer by David Ortiz and in the fourth inning there were two two-run homers by Jacoby Ellsbury and Jason Bay for another four runs. The last Red Sox run was a single run in the bottom of the fifth. The Twins scored three runs in the top of the second inning, one run in the top of the fifth inning (homerun by Denard Span), and one run in the top of the seventh inning. The final score was Boston nine and Minnesota five.
